To honor the fallen soldiers of Americas wars, many of the characters
in Foreign and Domestic have been named after the heroes of past and
present conflicts in an effort to keep their names from being
forgotten. Here is just a sample of the over thirty names resurrected
from all the branches of service:
Capt. Frank Corriston
Minnesota veteran of the Philippine War. Founder of the 3rd
oldest VFW post in the U.S. (plays Capt. Frank Corriston in Chap. 7)
Ssgt. Eric Caban
Army sniper KIA 2006 in Afghanistan when his recon patrol was
ambushed. (plays Ssgt Eric “Hawkeye” Caban, sniper for
11RIVER Stingrays in Chap. 35)
Capt. Steven Bennett
Medal of Honor recipient (post-humous) who died in Vietnam while
saving his backseater in an OV-10 Bronco. (plays Capt. Steven “Gumbo”
Bennett in Chap. 32)
LG Lesley McNair
WWII general from Minnesota killed in France by B-17 friendly-fire.
Second-highest ranking American to die in the war. (plays LG Leslie
“Tank” McNair in Chap. 26)
Cpl. Lawrence Cragg
WWII Army Air Corps corporal lost as sea when the transport ship he
was riding in was sunk off the coast of Algiers in 1944. (plays Cpl.
Lawrence “Jar-Jar” Cragg in Chap. 25)
Capt. Mark Lee
The first Navy SEAL to die in action in Iraq. (plays Capt. Mark
“Ducky” Lee, leader of 11RIVER Stingrays in Chap. 35).
